I would rather sit at home Thank you.

So my little sister has her Prom this weekend. She is excited. But that is not why I am writing about a high school prom ten years after I am out of High school.
My sister has this friend who, to put it nicely, has absolutely no social skills. She is completely oblivious to this fact too, and does not understand why only "creepy" guys are interested in her. (hmmm, maybe your slightly slutty looking pics of yourself on facebook are the first give away?) But I digress- So this girl- we will call her Kay- (not her real name- you just never know) She did not get asked to Prom. Now, I can sympathize with this. I did not get asked to Prom. But I did not sit around and stuff myself with ice cream that night either. I was proactive, and I asked a good friend of my to go with me- which actually ended up being lame, and one of my worst dates, but not for the fact of who I took. (again I digress)
Well, Kay's mother, feeling sorry for her daughter's lack of date, decides to find Kay a date. This all occurs a week before said prom is to occur- pickings are slim.
Well mother succeeds- who does she get I hear you asking? No one other then Kay's Brother-in-Law. Can we say MAJOR Pity date? Yes- said brother-in-law is WAY to old to be going to high school prom- at least 23.
So how awkward would this be? "No I am hanging out with a bunch of teenagers for the night. No I am not a chaperon, I am a date. Yes, I do realize that is utterly pathetic."
And how said for Kay- she is going to have to introduce her date- Yeah this is my brother-in-law. Yeah, it is a total pity date. I rock.
Well meant gesture by Brother-in-law and Mother- but SERIOUSLY- I would rather sit at home.

Post New York Syndrom

I have discovered I have a new "disease". I have Post New York Syndrom. It is kind of like post traumatic stress syndrom, but not traumatic or stressful.
I have noticed that some times, when my mind starts to wonder, or really when I am just doing a monotonous task (like what I do almost every day at work), my mind will suddenly flash to someplace in New York or Connecticut. Or it flashes to a memory from an activity while I was living back east.
These are always totally random thoughts- it has been five years since I have moved back to Utah, but these flashes always happen.
Like today for example, I flashed to this place in New Rochelle- I think. It is by a Costco. I remember one time I went to this little restruant for lunch with Meghann.(as often was the case- most of my flashes have Meghann in them, or are somewhere I went with Meghann...)
The other day I flashed to this Starbucks that I would get hot chocolate from, that was by this movie theatre...
When these flashes happen I try to remember where I flashed to, and what was in the area, and how to get around there. I am findind it harder to navigate my way around ( in my mind) This is sad to me. I spent so many hours driving around and exploring. Especially when I first got there. That is one of the most exciting things for me. And one of the proudest facts about my living back east. I felt like I had mastered it. I knew the area better then my employers did- I was awesome.
And now it is fading- which is hard. I need to go back- I think I could still find my way from the airport to my house in New Canaan.

ABC's of me- The Honorable H's

H is for Hawaii
I LOVE Hawaii. Actually- I love the Polynesian Culture. I would move to Hawaii in a heartbeat. I would even move to Samoa. The other islands, I would love to go to but not live there- the language barrier is difficult.
I have been to Tahiti- I love love love it.
I love everything about these cultures. I love the food, I love the people. The Polynesian people are so loving of other people. They are always so happy.

Why,you ask, am I so fond of these people and the cultures?
Well I will tell you. My dad served his mission in Samoa. So that is where it all started. When I was growing up, my Dad taught me how to count to ten in Samoan- I can't remember any of it now, sadly. We would go to these festivals, and I would sit for hours and watch the dancers. My dad learned how to make a few Samoan foods, which I love when he makes them- taro with Coconut milk, Coco Samoa- it is like a very dark hot chocolate so yummy!
I think that my dad has helped to seal this affinity to the Polynesian culture and people in me by giving me a Samoan middle name. I love my middle name, it is so unique, and has really helped me in my life (weird that my name has helped me...)
My middle name Pele (pronounced Pay-Lay) In Samoan, it means "dearest one"

Pele is also the name of the Hawaiian Volcano Goddess. (and some Brazilian soccer player- which is the person that most people think I am named after)
My dad like to say that I am some times am the Samoan version of my name, and sometimes I am the Hawaiian version.
I love it though- it give me personality. I like to think in a way it is part of my heritage, even though I am not at all Polynesian

Never means Never

Check you this site if you are with me in not reading Twilight. It is an arguement for and against Twilight- Obviously, I am the against Twilight(as you can tell from my last post) but the author does much better in explaining it then I do.
And this was before the movie came out too... BTW.
So for the last time- NO, I will not read or watch Twilight- there is not convincing me... I am stubborn as hell.

Why I will NEVER read the Twilight series...

Yes- I know all about the series. I have been told MANY times that I would love it. I have had everyone tell me the story line. I tell you now- I will NEVER be reading the Twilight Series, or watch the movie-(mostly because I think Robert Pattinson is creepy and ugly looking. I did not like him in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)
BUT my number one reason for not wanting anything to do with Twilight is Bella.
She is WEAK! It is sad to me that this is what teenage girls (and non-teenage girls) are idolizing. Is she really the example that we want for young girls? A helpless whiny pathetic girl?
Now I know that all you Twilight lovers will be argue with me on this point- but consider this. You may say that Edward does not let Bella do anything that he is sheltering her and protecting her... WELL- of the littlest bit of the movie that I saw because my sisters we all watching it- there is one line that completely made me decide to never have anything to do with Twilight- What line is this you ask? Well- from what I could tell... (because I was REALLY trying not to watch it) Bella was in the hospital, Edward had just come in and told her that he was leaving. SO here is a perfect opportunity for Bella to prove that she is strong and that she is a real Heroin and able to support herself. But no- what does she say? She tells Edward that he can't leave, that she will die with out him..blah blah blah!
She is given a REAL opportunity to prove that she can be strong and what happens? She crumbles like a house of cards.
Give me a Good Heroin- Give me Hermione Granger any day! That is a girl who is smart, confident, and can handle her own in a fight. She does not hide in the corner waiting to be saved, she goes out there and saves herself. THAT is a true example of the type of girl that I want to be!
